World Book Day, which took place in March, was the climax of a year’s activities promoting “Reading for Enjoyment”.
Year 8 pupils, who had participated in library based projects throughout the year, used the day to take part in “Readathon”, the UK’s biggest sponsored reading campaign aimed at motivating children to read but also supporting the life-saving work of two children’s charities. Pupils in Year 8 had, therefore, the opportunity to enjoy a day of reading and reading-related competitions, as well as to raise £925 for CLIC Sargent which supports children with cancer and The Roald Dahl Foundation which offers practical assistance to children and young people in the areas of neurology and haematology.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and we look forward to World Book Day next year.
Mrs L. Montgomery
