FAQs
Do I need to have studied G.C.S.E. Religious Studies in order to study it at AS/A2 level?
No, Religious Studies can be taken as a new subject at A’ level without any previous experience of the subject. It would, however, be necessary to have a genuine interest in the study.
Are there any particular subject requirements for taking A’ level Religious Studies?
Not specifically, however, a good grade in G.C.S.E. English would be desirable as the examination questions are of the structured essay type.
What use is a Religious Studies qualification in getting a job?
As you would expect, when employers are interviewing young people for a job they will tend to look very carefully at school qualifications. This is particularly true when specific subjects are required like English, Mathematics and Science. But the discerning employer will look at breadth of subject interests and for evidence of a young person’s capacity to think intelligently across a range of subject areas. Viewed as a supporting “arts” subject, Religious Studies fulfils this function admirably.
Religious Studies is a subject which requires the ability to examine important questions with an open mind, to weigh up arguments and reach reasoned conclusions. Skills such as these are relevant, not only to life as a whole, but are also relevant to many jobs.
