Sixth Form Prospectus
The aims of the Home Economics Department are to:
· Help pupils understand and appreciate the role of the home and the family as they relate to the development of the individual and society;
· Develop pupils’ understanding of the physical, emotional, intellectual and aesthetic needs of themselves and others which change throughout the lifestyle;
· Increase pupils’ awareness of how needs can be met, making best use of available resources;
· Develop the critical thinking and decision making capacity of pupils on matters relating to the home and family.
Resources:
· There are 2 Home Economics rooms.
· Each pupil in Year 8 is provided with a folder containing the worksheets to accompany the Scheme of
Work and additional sheets are provided at the beginning of Years 9 and 10.
· Each pupil at Key stage 4 proceeding to G.C.S.E is provided with text books.
· Each classroom has sets of books appropriate to each year group.
· Each classroom has a small library of books and pamphlets for research and reference purposes.
· There is a video player in the department with a selection of video tapes.
· There is a range of Computer programmes.
· There are 2 Overhead Projectors in the department.
· Pupils use school library for research. 6th form pupils may use network in the Library.
· A wide range of posters and pamphlets are provided by such agencies as Dairy Council, O.F.T., M.A.F.F.
· Food and other perishables are provided by school for food investigations and practicals.
