Quality experiences make for what I would call “a constructive business” which in turn nurtures a wholesome self-confidence, self-esteem and ultimately “character”.
(Excerpt from the Headmaster’s Address at the Annual Prize-Giving, 2008)
After weeks of practice that at times resembled the workings of a boot camp, the run up to Christmas was – contradictory to the effort of Tescos’ or Clintons’ marketing director – launched last night with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The crowd was naturally expectant of only the best from the magnificent Royal School choir and they were not disappointed. Everything was beautiful, powerful and seamless from procession to recession.
The Very Reverend P. W. Rooke provided the congregation with some poignant Christmas messages which were, in many ways, lessons that could be adapted to all year round about remembering the true meaning of Christmas.
The congregation enjoyed the night immensely and many saying that the Chamber Choir’s rendition of ‘Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day’ was a delightful yet unexpected Christmas Carol. The Royal School choirs never cease to amaze with their clever mix of tradition and select songs that display the choirs’ talents and technical brilliance. Their performance was admired by those who are considered veterans of this outstanding occasion and by proud parents watching their children taking part in this prestigious event.
Overall the whole night flew by. We would like to thank Mr Harris and Miss Crozier, along with everyone who took part, for the immense effort which resulted in such an enjoyable night.
